Radiological Protection Engineer B
Trawsfynydd is progressing some of its most complex decommissioning work, including the deplanting and demolition of the Ponds Complex. We are looking for an experienced radiological protection professional to join the site Radiological Protection Team to provide clear and practical advice in support of this ongoing work.
The programme involves work across ageing plant and structures, work areas with restricted or difficult access, and challenging radiological conditions. You will work closely with project and delivery teams to ensure these hazards are properly understood, assessed and controlled, with your advice directly supporting safe, compliant and practical delivery.
What will you be doing?
You will work within an experienced radiological protection team and be involved throughout the decommissioning process, from technical assessment and planning through to delivery, assurance and improvement, supporting some of the site’s most significant deplanting and demolition work.
Key elements of the role include:
- Undertaking radiological inspections and audits to ensure the effective implementation of the site radiological protection programme
- Providing clear and practical radiological protection advice, including options assessment to support BAT and ALARP decision-making
- Providing advice on requirements for the transport and consignment of radioactive materials from the site
- Providing specialist technical advice and guidance on radiological protection issues throughout the site, promoting good practice and supporting the development and delivery of training
Who are we looking for?
You will need to be an Accredited Health Physicist (or certified RPA) who is able to apply sound technical judgement in a regulated environment. You will be confident producing robust technical documentation, communicating radiological requirements clearly and working constructively with a range of disciplines. You will also be confident in challenging or escalating matters where radiological standards may not be met.
You will be:
- Educated to National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5 (England and Wales), e.g. NVQ level 5 / SCQF level 7/8 (Scotland), or equivalent in a role-related subject
- Relevant experience in radiological protection (as an Accredited Health Physicist or Certified RPA)
- Detailed knowledge of the Ionising Radiations Regulations, Environmental Permitting Regulations and associated radiological compliance requirements
You will take a collaborative and proportionate approach, helping teams protect people and the environment while supporting the safe delivery of Trawsfynydd Site’s Decommissioning programme.
If this sounds like a role where your experience could make a difference, we would welcome your application.
