Safety Case Specialist

Are you looking for a role where your expertise genuinely shapes the future of a major UK decommissioning project? At our historic Berkeley site, you will play a key part in one of the most important clean-up programmes in the country, supporting the safe dismantling of legacy nuclear facilities and the transition back to green field status.

This is a chance to work at the centre of a complex, technical and rewarding environment, contributing to activities that protect people and the environment for generations to come. With major waste retrieval plants now operating or nearing completion and new retrieval projects underway, it is an exciting time to join a team making real progress on site.

What will you be doing

You will lead, prepare and support the delivery of robust nuclear safety cases that sit at the heart of all ongoing retrieval and decommissioning activity. Your work will help ensure that operations remain safe, compliant and aligned with modern safety expectations, working closely with engineers, operators and regulators.

From developing new documentation to supporting the maintenance of the site’s reference safety case, you will contribute to a wide range of activities that keep the site moving forward safely and efficiently. You will apply strong technical authorship skills to produce clear, accurate and defensible safety documentation.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Developing, verifying and managing safety case documentation
  • Supporting site modifications and ensuring limits and conditions are properly implemented
  • Advising, guiding and occasionally training colleagues on safety case requirements
  • Monitoring site operations to ensure alignment with the safety case

This role is based on site at Berkeley, working Monday to Thursday, 07:25 to 17:00, ideal for anyone seeking a four day week.

Who are we looking for

You will bring a solid technical background and a confident understanding of how safety cases support safe operations in the nuclear sector, ideally within decommissioning. You will be comfortable engaging with a range of stakeholders, translating complex information into clear, defensible safety arguments. If you enjoy solving problems, thinking ahead and working collaboratively, you will fit well here.

We also welcome applications for those looking to develop and therefore may not meet all the essential criteria for the role. In these circumstances there may be a lower grade offered for a development opportunity. The successful candidate would be considered on a case-by-case basis and supported with a PDP (Personal Development Plan) to enable a clear path for progression into the role.

We would like you to have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical subject
  • Experience of safety case production and processes
  • An understanding of engineering safety, hazard identification and relevant legislation
  • Familiarity with Site Licence Conditions and the reasoning behind safety functional requirements

Professional membership and experience in safety case project and/or resource management would be an advantage.
