Waste Operator

We're looking for a Waste Operator to join our Waste Management team. In this role, you'll play a vital part in supporting waste processing, decontamination and decommissioning activities, helping ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly and on schedule. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you'll contribute to essential operational activities while developing your technical skills across a wide range of specialist disciplines.
What you will be doing
As a Waste Operator, you'll support the delivery of critical waste management and decommissioning activities that enable key site projects to progress safely and effectively. You'll work across a variety of operational environments, using specialist equipment, supporting waste processing activities and maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out waste sorting, segregation, packaging, and preparation activities to ensure safe and compliant waste management operations.
- Operating waste processing, volume reduction, and decontamination equipment within your level of competence while supporting efficient project delivery.
- Undertaking Health Physics monitoring and radiological clearance activities, identifying hazards, and always maintaining safe working practices.
- Supporting team performance through daily progress reporting, technical problem-solving, and collaboration with project teams across the site.
Who we are looking for
We're seeking a motivated and safety-conscious individual with a practical approach and a commitment to delivering high-quality operational work. You'll be comfortable working in a regulated environment, following procedures and adapting to changing priorities while maintaining excellent standards.
You'll ideally have:
- A relevant technical qualification at NQF Level 2, SCQF Level 5, NVQ, BTEC or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience working within waste management, industrial operations, decommissioning, or other operational environments.
- Strong awareness of health, safety, and compliance requirements, with the ability to identify hazards and resolve routine operational issues.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and a willingness to build capability across a broad range of site activities.
While not essential, the following would be desirable:
- Knowledge of radiological protection principles and nuclear safety standards.
- Experience of controlled waste management processes.
- Standard or Advanced Health Physics Monitoring skills.
- Experience operating plant, lifting equipment, forklifts, or other specialist site equipment.
