Waste and Decommissioning Assistant
Are you someone who takes pride in keeping essential operations running smoothly, even behind the scenes? Do you enjoy a role where you can work independently, stay organised, and make a real difference to the safe and efficient running of a complex site? If you’re looking for a hands-on position where your reliability and attention to detail truly matter, this could be the perfect opportunity.
Join the Radiological Protection Team within the Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality function at Hinkley Point A, where your work will directly support the safe and ongoing decommissioning of the site. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring contamination-controlled clothing and equipment are managed effectively, helping teams carry out their work safely while maintaining the highest standards of compliance.
What will you be doing
In this role, you’ll take ownership of the full lifecycle of site clothing used in controlled areas, from receiving and organising laundered items to distributing them across site and ensuring used clothing is safely collected and dispatched. You’ll work closely with multiple teams, coordinating daily requirements while managing your own schedule to ensure everything runs efficiently and without delay.
You’ll also be responsible for maintaining stock levels, upholding high housekeeping standards, and supporting safe working practices throughout. Operating a site vehicle will form part of your day-to-day duties, and you may also have the opportunity to carry out basic radiological monitoring tasks, with full training provided.
- Managing the distribution, collection and dispatch of site clothing and related equipment
- Coordinating with work teams to plan daily activities and ensure timely delivery of resources
- Maintaining stock control and working with stores to ensure availability of essential items
- Ensuring all tasks are completed safely, including hazard identification and point-of-work risk assessments
Who are we looking for
You’re a dependable and self-motivated individual who is comfortable working independently and takes pride in doing a job well. You understand the importance of safety, organisation and attention to detail, especially within an industrial or regulated environment. With a proactive approach, you’re able to manage your own workload, build strong working relationships across teams, and consistently deliver to high standards.
You’ll bring relevant experience from an industrial setting and hold a full, clean driving licence, as driving on site is a key part of the role. While prior knowledge of radiological protection or nuclear safety would be beneficial, it’s not essential what matters most is your willingness to learn, your commitment to safe working practices, and your ability to adapt in a role that combines responsibility with independence.
- Experience working in an industrial environment and a strong awareness of safety practices
- A full, clean driving licence and confidence operating vehicles as part of daily tasks
- The ability to work independently, manage time effectively and maintain high standards
- A proactive approach to learning, with an interest in developing knowledge of safety and radiological processes
