Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

“My team is made up of delivery and safety focussed, experienced personnel that manage and oversee all construction/demolition activities on a decommissioning nuclear site. Currently we have many projects ongoing within the site, from erection of new process buildings to conversion of existing facilities as well as refurbishment and demolition of old assets.

I am looking to employ an individual with good management and communication skills that can plan, manage and co-ordinate teams of contractors and packages of work on site. The ideal candidate would be a good communicator, self-motivated and delivery focussed individual that has an excellent safety culture.  

Key Deliverables

  • Provided Responsible for Oversight and Monitoring of Contractor Construction activities, ensuring compliance with documentation and giving constructive feedback where required.
  • Responsible for Reviewing and acceptance of Contractors Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Safe Systems of Work within the sites Construction Office.
  • Liaising with contractors and site teams to ensure that work is delivered safely and compliantly.
  • Proactively planning and Co-ordination of all works on site.
  • Creating a positive commitment to safety, promoting the company values and sharing of best practice among others. Review the arrangements for Company maintenance teams to ensure their procedures within Construction areas meet the minimum requirements set out in the CONSIs
  • Ensuring that site self-performing teams and maintenance teams are meeting the minimum requirements set out in the CONSIs.
  • Before any new work is started that involves significant risks, ensure that the Contractor has produced an effective Safe System of Work and includes a suitable pre-job brief.
  • Inspect the Contractor’s activities regularly to ensure they are compliant with the agreed Safe Systems of Work.
  • Where Contractors are not working to the agreed Safe Systems of Work, intervene to check the reasons for this and to determine the suitability of the adopted Safe Systems of Work. If necessary, suspend work until another review of the Safe Systems of Work can be undertaken
  • Where there is an imminent risk of serious injury or a dangerous occurrence, intervene to suspend work immediately.
  • Carry out regular formal inspections of assigned Contractor’s work – Record findings and place actions to correct where deficiencies are noted.
  • Carry out a regular review of all Contractor safety documentation, ensuring that the control measures remain suitable, sufficient and relevant to the work being done
  • Carry out regular inspection on assigned Contractors to ensure compliance with the relevant CONSIs for their work.
  • Provide oversight of construction activities in accordance with site licence conditions.
  • Support relevant safety audits/Inspection from key stakeholders/ regulators.
  • Keep a daily log of the Contractor’s activities.
  • Ensure Contractors have suitable emergency/contingency arrangements in place in support of the site's arrangements.
  • As a customer-focused individual, the post holder will be expected to assist with safe delivery within his or her range of skills, knowledge, experience and training.

 Qualifications and Experience

  • Construction Skills -CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS / SSSTS) (Essential).
  • Relevant experience of managing or supervising construction activities (Essential).
  • HNC / NVQ level 4 or equivalent, preferably in a construction background (Essential) .
  • A thorough knowledge of the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 (Essential).
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate ( Desirable).

There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
