Are you a technically minded individual with experience in radiation protection or instrumentation, ready to take the next exciting step in your career? Do you want to work somewhere where your skills directly contribute to environmental protection, innovation and the safe operation of a nationally significant nuclear site?
At Hinkley Point A a first generation Magnox power station you’ll join a skilled central radiation protection team dedicated to maintaining the highest radiological standards. This is a rare opportunity to apply and grow your expertise across varied, hands‑on tasks, from instrumentation checks to laboratory support and collaborative work with Accredited Health Physicists. No two days will ever look the same, and your contributions will support long‑term benefits for the site and the surrounding environment.
What will you be doing
In this role, you’ll become a key part of the radiological protection function, helping to ensure the safety of people, the environment and the facility. You’ll play an active part in improving processes, supporting technical investigations and maintaining equipment essential to radiological monitoring. Working closely with experienced specialists, you’ll help develop new approaches while ensuring existing standards are consistently met.
Your work will include activities such as:
- Carrying out radiological surveys, inspections and audits to support compliance across the site.
- Performing routine and non‑routine instrument checks, maintenance and calibration to ensure equipment is safe and reliable.
- Supporting investigations, airflow testing and sample assessments under the guidance of Accredited Health Physicists.
- Assisting in developing and reviewing radiological procedures, documentation and practices that improve safety performance.
Who are we looking for
We’re looking for someone with solid technical foundations who enjoys problem‑solving and takes pride in accuracy, safety and continuous improvement. You’ll be comfortable working in a regulated environment and keen to grow into a collaborative, knowledgeable member of the team who provides advice and guidance across the site. Strong communication skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach will help you thrive here.
To join us, you’ll need to be educated to NQF Level 4 (or equivalent), hold an NVQ Level 3 in Health Physics and be a member of a relevant professional institute. You’ll bring a practical understanding of radiological principles, with the confidence to support surveys, inspections and technical tasks. Experience on a nuclear site or familiarity with IRR17 and environmental legislation would be beneficial, but most importantly, you’ll bring the drive to learn, contribute and develop alongside a team committed to maintaining exemplary radiological standards.
