Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

"The Sizewell A Programmes Team are looking to recruit a Project Manager (PM) who is enthusiastic, highly driven and focused on safely delivering the Programmes decommissioning mission.

This is a Project Manager role who will integrate seamlessly into a highly skilled and experienced decommissioning team. The PM will be working across the decommissioning and Waste Programmes portfolio. 

It is a key decommissioning role to safely deliver the Sizewell portfolio of Waste and decommissioning works.

Please note this is a site based role at Sizewell A site and the working hours are 07.25 – 17.00, Monday to Thursday, perfect for someone looking for a four-day working week. 

Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Establish a clear vision and proactively guide the team toward shared project and organisational goals.
  • Take full accountability for safely delivering the project on time, within budget, and to quality standards while meeting all regulatory requirements.
  • Provide leadership and governance to ensure the project meets stakeholder expectations and follows NRS project management processes.
  • Ensure all projects and work packages meet required commercial outcomes.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders and customers in line with business strategy.
  • Set project baselines and operate key control processes including planning, cost, risk, change and requirements management.
  • Resource and manage a multi‑disciplinary team, securing specialist expertise when needed.
  • Develop and manage project risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation or corrective actions.
  • Provide required monthly performance data (e.g., critical path, milestones, CPI, SPI, EVA) to senior management.
  • Promote and support the use of Human Performance Error Prevention tools.
  • Obtain authorisation for and conduct project safety reviews in radiologically controlled areas, up to R4/C3 level.

Education / Qualifications / Training

  • Educated to HNC/D or equivalent in a relevant discipline (Essential).
  • APM Practitioner Qualification or equivalent and willingness to obtain within APM Practitioner within 1 year of appointment (Essential).
  • CITB Construction Site Manager’s Safety Certificate. (Desirable)
  • NEC 3/4 contract training (Desirable)

Experience / Knowledge / Behaviours

  • Demonstrable experience in a highly regulated industry including; engineering, procurement, construction/construction management (Essential).
  • Experience of performing functional tasks on projects with an understanding of Project Management processes and procedures (Essential). 

Desirable to have:

  • Experience of working in complex organisations (Matrix Management).
  • Flexible and adaptable approach, willing to take on new work challenges.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of performance with responsibility and accountability for successfully completing own assignments and tasks.
  • Proactive communicator both internally and externally to the project.
  • Customer focused with ability to develop and maintain positive and interactive project relationships.
  • Leads by example to ensure that Company Values are promoted and upheld.
  • Demonstrated active and innovative approach to problem solving and identifying solutions thinking, accountability, and adaptability skills.
  • Proactive reporting of progress and status of assignments including appropriate follow up.
  • Technical writing skills.
