Project Engineering Lead

This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to play a lead role in the delivery of Waste and Decommissioning projects at Wylfa.  Are you an individual with excellent leadership skills and a proven track record of taking technical projects from concept through to routine operations?

If you want to lead engineering that shapes the future of decommissioning at one of the UK's most iconic nuclear sites, then read on.

What you’ll be doing

As our Project Engineering Lead, you will be accountable for leading and developing the site’s project engineering capability, ensuring strong technical oversight and high‑quality engineering delivery.  You will drive successful installation, commissioning and handover of key Waste and Decommissioning projects into operations.

Not only this, but you will:

  • Ensuring all project engineering activities comply with company arrangements, regulatory expectations and safety frameworks.
  • Act as Principal Designer Assistant under CDM regulations, supporting safe and compliant project design.

Beyond the core deliverables, this role offers scope to shape engineering outcomes across complex, high‑value programmes. Supporting the responsible designer and engineering manager in end‑to‑end project delivery, you will:

  • Develop and own engineering strategies across design, safety case and commissioning.
  • Provide technical supervision and act as Commissioning Lead when required.
  • Ensure seamless system handover, including drawings, documentation, training and operational readiness.
  • Champion exceptional standards across Health, Safety, Environment, Security and Quality, driving continuous improvement.
  • Deputise for the Engineering Manager and, where appropriate, act as the nominated Principal Designer on less complex projects.

Who we’re looking for

The role requires collaboration across the site and the wider company to ensure projects are technically sound and deliver safe, pragmatic solutions that support the site’s decommissioning mission.

To succeed in this role, you will bring a degree‑level qualification (NQF Level 6) in Engineering or a relevant discipline and have significant experience in the Nuclear, Process, or Construction industries.

You will also have:

  • Strong working knowledge of technical, Health & Safety and environmental legislation.
  • Detailed knowledge of CDM Regulations especially the Principal Designer role.
  • Proven project delivery experience.
  • Practical experience of design and safety justification processes.

It would also be advantageous if you have experience in contract management, membership of a relevant engineering institution, or are chartered / working toward chartership. Knowledge of Nuclear Site Licence requirements and Quality Management Systems would further strengthen your application, but not essential.

This is a unique opportunity to influence the decommissioning mission at a nationally significant site. You will lead impactful engineering projects, shape future capability and work alongside experts committed to safety, innovation, and engineering excellence.

If you're ready to take on meaningful technical leadership, we want to hear from you.

Please note the role will be based at Wylfa but will be recruited with the understanding that some support may be provided to Trawsfynydd in line with business needs.
