Project Engineer - Civil

Are you ready to make a real impact on one of the UK’s most significant decommissioning programmes?
NRS is seeking a driven, forward‑thinking Civil Project Engineer to help shape innovative engineering solutions that support Decommissioning, Waste, and Asset Care Programmes at Wylfa.

This is a fantastic opportunity to expand your civil and structural engineering expertise while gaining hands‑on project delivery experience across a diverse and exciting portfolio of work. You’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering engineering solutions that support one of the UK’s most important decommissioning programmes.

If you have a solid foundation in Civil Engineering, strong technical writing skills, and the ambition to grow your structural design expertise and assessment capability, this role will give you the platform to develop, influence, and deliver real engineering outcomes.

If you’re looking for a role that offers challenge, purpose and real satisfaction, this could be exactly what you’ve been searching for.

What will you be doing:

As a Civil Project Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in shaping safe, effective, and fit‑for‑purpose engineering solutions aligned with safety and design standards across a wide-ranging project portfolio. Working closely with system engineers, designers, project managers, and stakeholders, you’ll help define project requirements, apply design authority standards, configuration control, and contribute to high-quality engineering documentation including technical specifications, reports, and design deliverables.

You’ll support structural surveys, assessments, and calculations under senior guidance while ensuring all design and safety standards are fully integrated into project delivery. You’ll provide engineering inputs to Project Execution Plans, ensuring strong design coordination and safety integration.

You'll also be at the heart of onsite activity providing technical oversight during construction and deconstruction, conducting inspections and walkdowns, and ensuring documentation meets expectations. Your work will extend into optioneering, modification proposals, and design safety activities, including building your understanding of CDM Regulations. Throughout, you’ll champion environmental, health, safety, security, and quality compliance, maintaining configuration control through accurate drawings, models, and documentation.

  • Develop high-quality engineering solutions, applying design authority standards and maintaining strong configuration control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to define project requirements while contributing to optioneering, modification proposals, and technical reviews.
  • Provide onsite technical oversight, reviewing documentation, conducting inspections, and ensuring construction and deconstruction activities meet design intent.
  • Champion safety, quality, and CDM compliance while supporting continuous improvement and progressing your professional development.

Who are we looking for

To thrive in this role, you'll bring a strong academic qualification and an understanding of engineering principles, industry standards, and design safety expectations, while confidently communicating technical information and working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

You will be:

  • Degree qualified or HNC in Civil or Structural Engineering (NQF Level 5/6), supported by experience (industrial placement or postgraduate) in civil, structural, construction, or industrial engineering.
  • Strong understanding of civil/structural principles and engineering standards with clear and confident communication and technical writing skills.
  • Awareness of CDM Regulations and design safety with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.

You’ll further elevate your capability with experience in regulated sectors, exposure to tools such as AutoCAD, 3D modelling or structural analysis software, and an awareness of risk management and safe systems of work. Familiarity with quality or site licence requirements and progress toward professional membership with the ICE or IStructE will help accelerate your development and impact within the role.

If you're ready for meaningful challenges and the chance to make a lasting impact, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and take the next step in your civil engineering career.
