Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

"Berkeley Site is a twin reactor Magnox nuclear power station that ceased generating electricity in 1989. The Magnox team are progressing with our mission of safely decommissioning the site to make it available for future alternative land use.
With several new items of plant now operational to support the mission, we are recruiting a Civil Technician to work within an experienced maintenance team.
The Maintenance team are responsible for carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance to maintain compliance. We are looking for a Civils Production Technician to work within an experienced team at Berkeley. This person will carry out civil maintenance activities in all site areas and manufacturing activities within a well-equipped workshop."
Please note this role is based on site at Berkeley, and the contractual working hours are Monday - Thursday, 07.25 - 17.00, perfect for someone seeking a four-day working week.
Key Deliverables
- Carry out core civil maintenance activities within own level of competence.
- Carry out manufacturing activities within own level of competence.
- Support delivery within their range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence.
- Carry out Civil tasks within scope and competence and to assist with general site building repairs/improvements.
- Comply with the Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments.
- Support colleague’s learning and development through knowledge sharing, task instruction etc.
Qualifications and Experience
- Appropriate technical qualification e.g. Carpentry or Plumbing. (Essential)
- Relevant experience in a Construction disciplined area. (Essential)
- Multi Discipline would be an advantage (Desirable)
- Ability to read and understand Construction drawings (Desirable)
- Appreciation of RSA and IRR requirements. (Desirable)
- Experience of working in the nuclear industry. (Desirable)
- SMSTS or equivalent (Desirable)

- The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.
