Production Technician
Are you looking for a hands‑on role where you can make a real impact in the safe decommissioning of a nuclear site? Do you enjoy practical work, learning new skills and being part of a team committed to high safety standards? If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join Hinkley Point A as a Production Technician playing a key part in preparing the site for its future and supporting essential waste retrieval and packaging activities.
This role gives you the chance to work in a unique industrial environment, helping to ensure compliance with nuclear site licence requirements, environmental permits and wider legislation. You’ll be joining a supportive team where safety, teamwork and continuous learning are at the heart of everything we do. With a structured training programme, free onsite parking, and a four‑day working week (Monday–Thursday, 07:25–17:00), this role offers a great balance of challenge, development and work‑life flexibility.
What will you be doing?
As a Production Technician, you’ll carry out essential operational duties that support the site’s decommissioning programme, working to approved procedures and demonstrating safe, competent performance. You’ll operate a variety of industrial vehicles and equipment to support waste handling, material movement and site operations, while ensuring all activities align with regulatory and site safety requirements.
You’ll also play a key role in supporting stores functions, contributing to safe systems of work and assisting colleagues with task familiarisation and knowledge sharing. Working closely with technical teams, you’ll help resolve routine operational challenges and maintain a strong safety culture within your area.
Key aspects of your role will include:
- Performing core operational duties to support waste retrieval, packaging and decommissioning activities safely and effectively.
- Operating industrial vehicles such as forklifts, cranes, tractors and tow tugs to enable efficient site operations.
- Supporting stores operations, including material handling, stock control and accurate equipment issue/receipt.
- Contributing to safety improvements, task instruction and problem‑solving with colleagues and technical teams.
Who are we looking for?
You’ll be someone who brings practical experience, strong teamwork and a commitment to working safely at all times. To succeed, you will need an appropriate technical qualification—such as a City & Guilds, BTEC or NVQ at Level 2—or substantial relevant industrial experience. Experience working in industrial environments is essential, as is a willingness to learn new skills and support the development of others.
You’ll be confident using tools and equipment, capable of working to approved procedures and ready to engage with safety systems that help protect people and operations. While training in asbestos awareness, dosimetry arrangements, equipment use or confined‑spaces work would be advantageous, full training will be provided for the right candidate. Above all, you’ll be reliable, safety‑focused and keen to contribute to a delivery‑focused team.
You’ll bring:
- A Level 2 qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ) or substantial equivalent experience, plus previous industrial environment experience.
- Confidence using industrial tools and equipment, with a willingness to undertake further training.
- A strong focus on safety, teamwork and following approved procedures in a regulated environment.
- A proactive attitude, adaptability and readiness to support others through knowledge sharing and safe working practices.
