Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

“Hinkley Point A site is progressing with our mission of safely decommissioning the site to make it available for alternative land use, as such we are recruiting Production Technicians to support this important work.
We are seeking people who will conduct their work safely, who are team-players and willing to learn new skills. Please note this role does require daily use of Personal Protective Equipment, including full face, powered respirators."
Please note this role is based at Hinkley Point A and the working pattern is staggered 12-hour days covering 3 days per week (Monday to Wednesday and Wednesday to Friday) from 06:20 to 18:40. The successful candidate will be expected to be on call to attend site out-of-hours in response to operational alarms and site events a minimum of 1 week in 6.

- Starting salary £32,878 - salary upon completion of training £36,790 (anticipated timeframe of 36 months).
- Staggered working pattern covering 12 hours per day, three days per week (37 hour working week).

Key Deliverables
- Operate a variety of plant items across the entire site as instructed by the Team Leader and Control Person, in accordance with approved operating instructions.
- Provide reassurance radiological monitoring surveys.
- Adhere to safe systems of work and actively contribute to, and champion, continuous safety improvements within your work areas.
- Use your skills and experience to be an effective team member of a delivery focussed programme.
- Support colleague’s learning and development through knowledge sharing, task instruction and familiarisation training.
- Actively engage with technical teams to solve routine operational problems to improve safety and enhance delivery.
- As part of the site’s contingency arrangements, you will be required to be authorised as a Responder and Nuclear Occupational First Aider.
- The role includes being on-call for a minimum of on week in six to attend site out-of-hours to respond to operational alarms and emergency events.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in plant operations or maintenance activities in a highly regulated working environment (desirable).
- Appropriate technical qualification e.g., City and Guilds, BTEC, NVQ (NQF Level 2) or relevant experience (essential).
- Experience of working in an industrial environment (essential).
- Knowledge of radiological matters and nuclear safety standards, including working within hazardous radiation and contamination areas (C2/3/4) (desirable).
- Demonstrable experience in a production operations role (desirable). #INDOR

- The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.

There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
