A vacancy currently exists within the Chapelcross Processing Plant; a former tritium production facility that presents unique challenges in decommissioning. Much of the decommissioning is “hands on” using mechanical aids to size reduce redundant items. Once packaged, waste is moved and lifted around the building for further processing before being removed for long term storage. The plan of work is varied and requires flexibility and adaptability within the team members. The position will involve working in pressurised air-fed suits during some of the waste retrieval operations.

Key Deliverables:

• Classified Radiation Worker Status.
• Crane/Hoist Driver (including General Lifting Operations) to recognised industry standards.
• First Aider following appropriate training as required.
• Forklift Truck Driver to an accredited standard.
• Air-Fed Suit operations within plant environments.
• Waste retrieval and packaging activities.
• Mechanical/practical equipment size reduction operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Basic literacy and numeracy qualifications. (Essential)
•  Appropriate technical qualifications e.g. City and Guilds, BTEC, NVQ (NQF Level 2) or relevant experience. (Essential)
• Awareness of modern safe working practice. (Essential)
• Mechanical/practical ability. (Essential)
• Experience of team working. (Essential)
• Experience of working in an industrial environment. (Desirable)
• Experience of working in a highly-regulated industry. (Desirable)
• Fork lift truck/pedestrian truck operations. (Desirable)
• Crane /lifting operations. (Desirable)
