Mechanical Fitter
A fantastic opportunity has arisen within the Chapelcross Maintenance Department for a Mechanical Fitter to join a multi‑disciplined team responsible for the examination, inspection, maintenance and testing of critical plant and equipment on site in support of the Plant Maintenance Schedule and other statutory requirements. This diverse role is ideal for someone who is motivated, adaptable, and eager to broaden their capabilities to be part of a team who contributes to the safe and successful delivery of site and company objectives.

Please note the working hours are 07.30 – 17.15, Monday to Thursday, perfect for someone looking for a four-day working week.
What will you be doing
You’ll play a vital role in ensuring the reliable and safe performance of plant and equipment across the site. Operating at the heart of a multi‑disciplined team, you’ll contribute to essential maintenance activities that keep operations running smoothly and in full compliance with regulatory, safety and quality standards. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, you’ll carry out core maintenance duties ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments.
In this hands‑on role, you’ll be encouraged to expand your skills through comprehensive training while maintaining accurate maintenance records and applying your technical expertise with care and precision. This is a position where your motivation, adaptability and commitment to safe working practices will directly influence the success of the wider team.
You will also:
- Complete all required training and maintain accurate records of completed tasks to support the site Plant Maintenance Schedule.
- Ensure skills, knowledge and safe working practices related to hand and power tool use remain current and fully effective.
Who are we looking for
We’re looking for a skilled and reliable Mechanical Fitter who brings hands-on experience, a strong technical foundation and a commitment to safe working practices and the HASAWA. You’ll be someone who understands the importance of working to high standards in a regulated environment and who can contribute positively to a team-focused culture. Your background will demonstrate both practical capability and the professionalism needed to support safe and effective plant maintenance.
Whether you’ve gained your expertise through a traditional apprenticeship route or through substantial technical experience, you’ll bring a solid understanding of mechanical principles, safe working behaviours and the confidence to work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplined team. A positive attitude, willingness to learn and strong awareness of safety expectations will be key to your success in this role.
You will bring:
- Time‑served Mechanical Fitter with demonstrable technical qualifications (e.g. City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC, NVQ (NQF Level 3) or relevant experience.
- Relevant, suitable work experience in a technical environment may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications, where appropriate.
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team in a safety‑focused environment.
