Maintenance Engineer (Control & Instrumentation)
Are you looking for a role where your engineering skills genuinely make a difference and your ideas are encouraged and valued? This is an opportunity to join a team that keeps essential assets safe, reliable and performing well, supporting the UK’s civil nuclear mission.
As a Maintenance Engineer focused on Control and Instrumentation, you will work with experienced colleagues who take pride in their work and support one another. You will help maintain and improve plant systems across Sizewell A and Bradwell, contributing to long term safety and performance. If you want technical challenge, variety and the chance to develop further, you will feel at home here.
What will you be doing
Your role will centre on providing trusted engineering expertise across a portfolio of systems and assets. You will investigate equipment issues, guide repairs and support the safe delivery of maintenance activities. Working closely with System Engineers, you will make sure plant performance, reliability and compliance remain strong.
You will also have the chance to shape future improvements, from hazard identification through to developing engineering solutions and supporting project implementation. Over time, you may act as a Nominated Responsible Engineer or take delegated Design Authority responsibilities, with full support from your team.
- Fault finding, calibration and repair of instrumentation, including pressure, flow, temperature and level systems, plus PLC controlled systems
- Producing and reviewing technical documentation including Method Statements, Work Instructions and Risk Assessments
- Supporting modifications, improvements and project optioneering
- Providing clear technical advice to internal teams and external stakeholders
Who are we looking for
You will bring experience in Control and Instrumentation engineering in an industrial environment, together with a solid understanding of relevant engineering standards. You do not need a nuclear background, although it is welcome. What matters is a practical approach, confidence in your technical ability and a willingness to learn from others while sharing your own knowledge.
You will need an HNC or Engineering Degree and hands on experience maintaining or operating plant and equipment. Familiarity with risk assessment approaches, safety requirements or project delivery is helpful, and membership of an engineering institute is an advantage but not essential. If you are keen to develop and meet most of the requirements, there is also the option of a development role with a structured Personal Development Plan.
You will need:
- Experience working with C&I equipment on industrial or process plant
- Ability to diagnose faults, support maintenance and advise on safe methods of work
- Strong communication skills and a customer focused attitude
- Understanding of relevant safety rules, quality requirements, engineering standards and experience of project delivery and CDM responsibilities would be useful.
