Lead Risk Practitioner
As we continue to deliver our critical decommissioning mission in a complex and evolving environment, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Risk Practitioner to join our Programme Management Office. This role will provide leadership, specialist advice and constructive challenge across project and programme risk management, supporting the Head of Profession – Risk in delivering a consistent, effective and continuously improving risk management service across NRS.
What You'll Be Doing
The successful candidate will lead and support the deployment of risk management capability across the organisation, ensuring risks and opportunities are identified, assessed, escalated, managed, and reported effectively. You will work closely with project teams, sites, and senior stakeholders to strengthen decision-making, improve delivery confidence, and ensure compliance with company standards, industry best practice, and assurance expectations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced risk professional to shape and influence risk management practice at a strategic and operational level, mentor others, drive continuous improvement and contribute directly to the successful delivery of NRS business priorities.
You will also act as a subject matter expert for advanced risk analysis, supporting complex cost and schedule quantitative risk assessments, helping project teams understand and respond to uncertainty. Through coaching, facilitation, and engagement with industry and NDA-led forums, you will drive the adoption of best practice, champion innovation, and help develop risk management capability across the organisation:
- Deliver and assure a compliant, effective, and continuously improving risk management service across the NRS estate, supporting projects and programmes throughout their lifecycle.
- Provide specialist expertise in quantitative risk analysis, including complex schedule and cost modelling using tools such as Primavera Risk Analysis (PRA), Safran, and P6, while mentoring others and developing practical risk solutions.
- Lead and facilitate risk identification workshops, working with project managers and risk owners to analyse threats and opportunities, develop mitigation strategies, and enhance risk management capability through coaching and training.
- Assist the NRS Head of Profession – Risk, in the leadership, training, mentoring, and deployment of fellow practitioners within the risk team to efficiently service the sites across the NRS estate.
- Represent NRS within NDA and cross-OpCo forums, sharing best practice, influencing the development of risk processes and tools, embedding innovative approaches that strengthen project delivery and business performance.
Who We're Looking For
We're seeking a confident and knowledgeable risk management professional who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to influence, engage, and develop others. Whether your experience has been gained through formal qualifications or significant practical application in industry, you will bring a proven track record of supporting successful project delivery within complex, highly regulated environments.
Most importantly, you will be someone who can translate complex risk information into clear, actionable insight that supports effective decision-making and drives improved project performance.
You will have:
- A relevant degree, professional qualification (such as the Institute of Risk Management), or demonstrable practical industry experience relevant to the role.
- Experience in leadership with excellent communication and presentational skills to engage positively with a range of stakeholders, and capable of developing others, through coaching, training, and mentoring.
- Significant experience in project controls and quantitative risk analysis within highly regulated industries or similarly complex project delivery environments, and competent in the use of risk and assumption databases, with hands on experience in SCQRA modelling techniques for contingency provisioning.
