Deputy Security Guard

This position follows a rotating pattern of day and night shifts, including some weekend working, alongside rostered training days (averaging 37 hours per week). We may close the vacancy early should we receive a high volume of applications, so we encourage early submission.
What will you be doing?
In this pivotal role, you’ll assist in leading a professional Security Team responsible for keeping the Wylfa site safe, secure and operating smoothly. Every day brings variety as you support essential decommissioning activities, uphold high security standards and play a key role in protecting people, assets and infrastructure. You’ll be trusted to make informed decisions, respond to situations confidently and ensure the site remains a safe place to work.
Working to clearly defined procedures and security protocols, you’ll help manage access to the site, monitor activity, assess and take appropriate immediate actions in response to incidents. Your presence will provide reassurance to colleagues and visitors, and your commitment to compliance will help maintain the highest levels of safety and security.
- Managing secure site access, monitoring movements and following all protocols within the Nuclear Site Security Plan (NSSP) and Security Assignment Instructions (SAIs).
- Conducting thorough searches of people, vehicles and property, undertaking regular patrols and supporting the site by addressing enquiries with professionalism and confidence.
- Ensuring full compliance with standards, completing required training package and maintaining a strong security presence.
- Responding swiftly to alarms, incidents and irregularities, taking immediate action and ensuring accurate reporting every time.
- Deputise for the Security Lead Guard.
- Act as a mentor for Security Guards.
- Assist in the management and leadership of the Security Team in delivering a professional, effective Security Service and Emergency/ Contingency/ Silent Hours Monitoring and Surveillance response capability to the Company and Site Standards.
- Post holder will be responsible for contributing to People Management, Control and Supervision, Loss Control, Communications and appropriate Resource Management and Management of Systems and Processes.
Who Are We Looking For?
We’re looking for someone reliable, confident and committed to delivering consistently high standards of Security. You’ll be the kind of person who takes pride in following procedures, staying alert and maintaining professionalism in every interaction—whether responding promptly and professionally to alarms, incidents, or assisting visitors on site. Your ability to stay calm, focused and proactive in a regulated environment will be key to your success within this role.
Alongside the right mindset, you’ll bring the essential qualifications and experience needed to operate safely and effectively. These ensure you can carry out your duties in line with Security Standards, navigate the Site safely and represent the Security Team with confidence.
You will have:
- NQF Level 2 / NVQ Level 2 qualification or relevant equivalent experience.
- A valid SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence or equivalent in Security Guarding and Conflict Management.
- A full, valid UK Driving Licence.
- NVQ Level 2 in Security Management considered an advantage.
